Disabled maintenance vehicle causes major BART slowdown

A disabled maintenance vehicle is causing major delays on BART on the Fremont and Warm Springs lines. BART is single tracking between Union City and South Hayward due to the issue, and AC transit is shuttling passengers between Union City and Bay Fair stations, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Commission. Alicia Trost, a BART spokeswoman, said on Twitter that the issue started when the front two rubber tires of a pick-up truck maintenance vehicle came off the rail and hit the third rail while the crew was doing track inspections. No one was injured. “The cause was not due to a rail defect but the vehicle,” Trost wrote.
