Federal officials confirmed Tuesday that they launched a big immigration enforcement action this week in Northern California, after remaining silent for three days. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement made more than 100 arrests in the operation, reported Fox News, which was given a ride-along as ICE officers knocked on doors and detained people. The Chronicle reported in January that federal officials were planning such an operation to send a message that immigration law would be enforced in the sanctuary state. Then, on Saturday night, Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf released an unprecedented warning that the agency was about to begin arresting people.
