Major accidents bring traffic to early morning halt

Two accidents with injuries — one in Redwood City and the other in Pinole — prompted severe traffic alerts early Wednesday morning and caused delays. The off-ramp on northbound 101 near Whipple Avenue in Redwood City was closed due to an overturned truck, said Kevin Bartlett of California Highway Patrol. The call about the accident first came in at 4:53 a.m. He said that only one vehicle was involved and that injuries to the driver were minor. Other drivers were advised to avoid the area. Another severe traffic alert went out due to an accident with injuries on westbound 80 at Pinole Valley Road in Pinole. Bartlett said that two vehicles were involved, and that injuries were minor.
