Before tipoff of Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals Saturday night, social media was abuzz with a singular question: Why are the Warriors starting Nick Young? In the first round against San Antonio, Young was mostly a non-factor, averaging 1.2 points on 25 percent shooting in six minutes per game. However, Golden State head coach Steve Kerr reckoned that the Pelicans — with their up-tempo, guard-heavy attack — warranted a small-ball starting lineup. Young offered the Warriors’ another floor-spacer to open the game.
