Squaw Valley ski resort planned to reopen Saturday, a day after an avalanche struck five skiers and injured two of them. Ten of the resort’s 29 lifts were scheduled to start turning at 9 a.m., said Liesl Hepburn, a spokeswoman for Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows. “KT-22 will be on a delayed opening and the upper mountain at Squaw Valley is currently closed due to avalanche hazard,” she said in an email. The avalanche hit at 1:40 p.m. Friday, said Dispatcher Trek Sinclair of the Placer County Sheriff’s Office. Five skiers were caught in the slide, and two were injured, one seriously. The avalanche occurred just hours after a snowboarder was found dead at the resort.
