In advance of the major storm that will hit the Bay Area on Thursday and Friday, the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission is deploying flood barriers in the low-lying areas along 17th and Folsom Streets. The storm, an atmospheric river and a rare tropical event in April, is expected to dump 1 to 3 inches of rain in San Francisco and Oakland, according to the National Weather Service. In the the North Bay, the storm could bring between 3 and 6 inches. Flooding is a concern across the region, which prompted the SPUC to create “temporary interlocking flood barriers” in the low-lying area in the Mission District.
