After a stunning arrest in a case that went unsolved for decades, Joseph James DeAngelo — the alleged East Area Rapist and Golden State Killer — will make his first court appearance Friday in Sacramento. DeAngelo, 72, will appear at 1:30 p.m. at the Lorenzo Patiño Hall of Justice on multiple murder charges. Authorities say DNA helped link him to a string of at least 12 slayings and 45 rapes in California from 1976 to 1986. He was booked into Sacramento County Jail early Wednesday and is accused of shooting a young couple near their Rancho Cordova home in 1978 as they walked their dog. He is being held without bail.
