The biggest storm so far this year hit the Bay Area on Thursday, bringing rain and gusty winds that aren’t likely to let up until tomorrow. The North Bay received the heaviest downpour, as rain started around 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Santa Rosa area. Across the region, as of 4 a.m., most locations had between 1.5 and 2 inches of rain, with some mountain locations getting even more. “The bulk is headed south toward Monterey right now,” said Matt Mehle of the National Weather Service. “But a cold front is moving into the North Bay and San Francisco right now, so rain and winds will continue.” San Francisco had 0.52 inches of rain downtown and half an inch at the airport by 4 a.m.
