Slick roadways caused chaos and traffic delays early Thursday on Bay Area roadways, according to authorities. An accident involving two vehicles just before 6 a.m. on Interstate 580, east of Grant Line Road, shut down a westbound lane in Alameda County, according to the California Highway Patrol. There is no estimated time for when the lane will reopen, CHP said. A severe traffic alert was issued for the area. There is no immediate information on injuries. Elsewhere in the Bay Area, a box truck hydroplaned and overturned south of Bernal Avenue on Interstate 680 in Pleasanton. Two northbound lanes shut down as a result, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Commission.
