A massive fire erupted at a Hayward hotel early Thursday morning, authorities said. The blaze began at 3:58 a.m. on the second floor of the three-story Americas Best Value Inn, at 2460 Whipple Rd, and flames crept into the third floor and attic, said Capt. Don Nichelson, a spokesman for the Hayward Fire Department. The hotel was evacuated and no injuries were reported. “A lot of people were displaced out of their rooms, but only two people were seeking Red Cross shelter,” Nichelson said. By about 6:30 a.m., hotel guests were reportedly being let back into their rooms to retrieve their belongings. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
