Giants’ Bumgarner fractures bone in pitching hand

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The worst thing that could happen in the Giants’ final Cactus League game occurred at Scottsdale Stadium on Friday. Madison Bumgarner, in his final tuneup before his scheduled Opening Day start, sustained a fractured left hand in the third inning after taking a line shot to his pitching hand by the Royals’ Whit Merrifield. A replay showed that Bumgarner stuck his left hand in front his chest instinctively to protect himself. “Horrible news for us,” manager Bruce Bochy said. “That’s all you can say about it. There’s nothing you can do but push on.
